Community Education

In addition to providing legal counsel and representation to clients in need, HALSA offers training and educational programs on HIV/AIDS law and best practice. HALSA is the primary source in Southern California for information on HIV-related legal issues and conducts more than 30 clinics and trainings annually on topics ranging from discrimination and confidentiality to housing to immigration.
HALSA attorneys, advocates and educators provide numerous trainings throughout Southern California and beyond to AIDS service providers, case managers, social workers, agency administrators, physicians, attorneys, educators and people living with HIV. If you would like to request a training for your group (in English or Spanish), please call us at the number below. We will be happy to work with you to develop a training that meets the needs and interests of your group.
For newly-diagnosed individuals, we offer a comprehensive one-on-one education and evaluation session called Legal Check Up. This award-winning program helps people identify legal issues before they become major issues by evaluating current legal needs and providing information, legal advice and referral resources necessary to promote empowerment and prevent future legal problems.
HALSA also welcomes requests from social workers and service providers for general information on HALSA, our Legal Check Up, or legal education material. Our printed legal guides and other educational materials may be requested at the number below or you can download them directly from the Legal Guides section.
